The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin work on the Perry Avenue (M-20) bridge over southbound US-131 in Big Rapids on Monday, July 27, 2026.
This $400,000 project will replace the bridge’s beam and parts of the deck.
Lane closures and traffic shifts will occur on westbound Perry Avenue and southbound US-131 for the duration of the project. Construction, which will take place between the southbound and northbound on-ramps, is projected to last through mid-October.
The project follows a car crash in August 2025 that damaged the bridge. The on-ramp from westbound Perry Avenue will remain closed but according to MDOT representative John Richard, the completion of this project will help re-open the ramp later on.
