The primary election is now in the books, and the results are being finalized.

In November’s general election, Michigan’s governor race will feature Republican John James, who defeated Perry Johnson by an unofficial 50% to 35% vote share. James will square off against Democrat Jocelyn Benson, who dominated Chris Swanson with about 83% of the Democratic vote.

For the U.S. Senate seat, uncontested Republican candidate Mike Rogers will face Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, who is edged out Haley Stevens in a tight race by approximately 1 percentage point.

In the 2nd Congressional District election, incumbent Republican John Moolenaar will face Democrat Ben Ambrose, who ousted Jamie Hill 44% to 42%.

Here are the highlights and full result links for five of our local counties:

ISABELLA COUNTY

• The county senior citizens service millage proposal passed with 77% of the vote.

• All three township millage renewals passed (Deerfield Township Fire Protection, Sherman Township Library and Wise Township Mosquito Abatement).

• Farwell Area Schools passed its millage renewal proposal (61%).

• Hannah Demerath won the Mount Pleasant city commissioner seat (55%) against Michael Kostrzewa.

• Ben Ambrose edged Jamie Hill in Isabella County by 104 votes for the Democratic nomination in the 2nd Congressional District.

LAKE COUNTY

• All three township millage renewals passed (Elk Township Fire & EMS, Peacock Township Fire Protection and Peacock Township Operations).

• Tom Evans claimed 78% of the Republican vote for Lake County prosecuting attorney.

• Rick Haslock was selected (65%) as the Republican nominee for Lake County road commissioner.

• Chris Grier (65%) was chosen as the Democratic nominee for Yates Township supervisor.

• Rich Vance received a majority of the county’s votes (31%) among five Republicans running in the 101st District U.S. House race.

MECOSTA COUNTY

• Morley Stanwood Community Schools (56%) and Chippewa Hills School District (52%) passed their millage proposals.

• Wheatland Township passed its road repair millage renewal with 70% of the vote.

• Sheridan Township approved a special assessment proposal by a 135-130 count.

• John James collected a majority of Mecosta County Republican votes for governor (46%) over Perry Johnson (37%).

• Haley Stevens received more Mecosta County votes (51%) than Abdul El-Sayed (44%) in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary.

NEWAYGO COUNTY

• White Cloud Public Schools (54%) and Grant Public Schools (59%) passed their operating millage proposals.

• Tri County Area Public Schools’ operating millage failed with 46% support.

• All six Lilley Township millage renewals and all three Norwich Township millage renewals passed.

• Ensley Township’s road millage was voted down with only 46% support.

• The Merrill Township trustee race between Charles Dryer and Ashley Miles ended in a 100-100 tie.

OSCEOLA COUNTY

• Both Osceola County EMS restoration (71%) and network (63%) millage renewals passed.

• County proposals for school resource officers (63%), senior citizens (69%) and 4-H restoration (60%) were approved by voters.

• Evart Public Schools passed an operating millage with 58% of the vote.

• The city of Evart approved a police millage by a 184-92 count.

• Roger Hauck earned 73% of the Osceola County Republican vote over Rhonda Lange for the 34th District state Senate nomination.
