For the second year in a row, the Post 98 Ducks baseball team has qualified for the American Legion state tournament.

The tournament will be held at Nicolay Field at Adrian College this weekend. The Big Rapids-based Ducks will match-up with Bay City, who is led by Aaron Koin with a squad full of Standish-Sterling players such as Toledo Baseball Commit Preston Kann. The game is at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

“They are a very good team and it will be tough." Manager J.T. Scarpelli said on Bay City.

Big Rapids High School faced Standish-Sterling in the MHSAA baseball playoffs this past spring. Post 98 players such as Braylan Danielson, Nick Routley, Jon Losinski and Kurt Wilber will all be familiar with their opponent on the other side. 

Scarpelli will give the ball to Emmett Lingeman out of Central Montcalm, who is committed to Kellogg Community College. The offense has been led this season by Newaygo's Russell Toth and Big Rapids' Kurt Wilber.

"Wilber, who has played every position this summer, has been the starting catcher and the heartbeat of this offense. Despite a slow start this summer from Quin Garrett out of Morley Stanwood, this past month he has really stepped it up as he leads the team in extra base hits."
